Harvest Spoon: A Tribute to Neil Young (Smartspoon Benefit Show)

www.gofundme.com/shakes37206 "The success of the “Spoons of Diamond” event led to giving away many Liftware utensil kits! It's time for the next event from Not So SteadyCam Productions. It's a “no-brainer” to celebrate the work of another legendary Neil. Neil Young's friends gave him the nickname “Shakey” because of his unsteady camerawork in his old home movies. He has even directed films under the name “Bernard Shakey.” This alone would be a great tie-in for a Not So SteadyCam Productions event. Yet, the similarities don't end there. Neil and his daughter, Amber Jean, have epilepsy and, both of Neil's sons have cerebral palsy. Zeke, the oldest, has a milder form, similar to my own. Ben, the younger of the two, is nonverbal and quadriplegic. Neil Young has been active in helping to level the playing field for his and, many other, children with disabilities. He bought Lionel and developed “the big red button” that allows Ben to operate their beloved model trains. He also supported The Bridge School, for special needs children, in California with a yearly all-star concert. His ex-wife Pegi, who passed away earlier this year, was a co-founder and driving force behind the school. In honor of both of their tireless work, his entire Harvest Moon album, along with other notable hits, will be performed while raising funds to help people with disabilities eat with more independence, confidence and, dignity. My mission is simple. If this device will improve your quality of life, you should have one, no matter your ability to afford one. As a man born with cerebral palsy, I know firsthand that life with a disability comes with added struggles and expenses. Also, as a guy who is so completely comfortable with having CP that I go by the nickname of “Shakes,” I can say that the first time to use this spoon was a life changing moment. I can't imagine how it would affect someone who isn't as comfortable with their own disability! These spoons, with accessories, cost around $300. Items like these are not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or, majority of private insurance. Therefore, I search out people who would benefit from this technology and, simply give them one, along with the available accessories. After all, there's already enough “red tape” and “hoops to jump through” in today's world...and, who doesn't enjoy a nice bowl of soup?" - Shakes, event organizer Video Production (shooting & editing) by Mikayla Lewis: Be Reel Co.
